Target Shooting
Growing up in rural Iowa, I saw a whole lot of shooting. Folks were constantly hunting, target shooting, practicing archery and attending shooting events. It was certainly a normal hobby where I lived. Sports came in second to firearms. We got much more excited over a Desert Eagle handgun than we did a football. Can you really blame us? So basically I learned that firearms and weapons in general were a standard part of life. Since I grew up using them, I naturally acquired some of my own as an adult. Unfortunately not everyone agrees with me on this.
It’s a person’s right to own and bare arms. Isn’t that what the Constitution says? Well, more or less anyway. The basic point is in regards to self-preservation. We all have the right to defend ourselves and our families. Makes perfect sense to me! I think individuals who own firearms simply for a little target shooting and home defense are misconstrued. Often hardcore liberals state that no one should be able to own or carry certain firearms. This is bogus! Just because you don’t want to carry a Glock or Kimber handgun, doesn’t meant that I don’t. It should be completely up to me, considering I have a clean record with the law. Not everyone is a hunter. While there are plenty of individuals out there who live to hunt, many of us don’t care for it. We own our firearms for other reasons. And sometimes it is merely for target shooting. My brother is a perfect example of this. The guy has never hunted in his life, but he loves to hit up the local shooting range on occasion. In the last year he’s purchased a Kimber 45, a Henry 22 rifle, and a 22 caliber pistol, all for target shooting. It’s just about simple fun and release. Imagine the stress reduction you can achieve by lining-up your sites on some paper targets and firing off a hundred rounds of lead. It feels great to get that frustration off your chest.
If you’re into target shooting, it’s definitely an advantage to live out in the country, away from the suburbs. My eldest sibling does this and has his very own shooting range set up. NICE! As for all of you who don’t, try the yellow pages for some local shooting ranges. There are indoor and outdoor ones available.
